Volunteering

Volunteers at Hartford Audubon Society play a crucial role in the fulfillment of our mission. We are run completely on the efforts of our volunteers, and we could not accomplish all we do without them. Volunteers promote increased knowledge and understanding of birds by organizing guest speakers at our monthly meetings and quarterly Wildlife Series, maintaining our 4 sanctuaries, and leading field trips both inside and outside Hartford County. Volunteer positions will be posted below as the need arises.

Board Members – We are currently looking for two new Board Members to serve beginning in May 2024. This is a great opportunity to serve the organization at the highest level. The Board of Directors is currently composed of 4 officers and 5 directors and is responsible for providing high-level oversight of the organization’s programs and activities and implementation of the long-term plan. The regular Board meetings occur 4 times a year. Time commitment: 4-5 hours / quarter. If you are interested, please contact Fran D’Amico at frandamico525@yahoo.com or call 203-237-2734 or Al Gatti at algatti22@gmail.com or call 860-916-7142.

Finance Committee – Serve as a member of the Committee which meets quarterly.  Financial, investment, or accounting experience required. Time Commitment: 3-4 hours / quarter.

Programs and Event Planning – We are always interested in anyone who can assist the Program & Events Coordinator in finding & scheduling guest speakers for monthly meetings and wildlife programs. Time Commitment: 2-3 hours / month

Sanctuary Maintenance – Generally, each Sanctuary Steward will organize periodic work party events lasting 3 – 5 hours on a Saturday morning.

Education Committee – Serve on a new committee designed to increase knowledge and understanding of birds among the members of the association and the public. Time Commitment:  2-3 hours a month.
